Contaminated Sediments
Port of Oakland, California
Lead ecological risk assessor for evaluation of risks from contaminated sediments at four storm water outfalls (2011-2013). Weight-of-evidence approach used to evaluate risks from metals, PAHs, and chlorinated organics to birds and sediment-associated biota. Successfully obtained by-off from DTSC to finalize over 10-year effort to achieve site closure.
Honeywell, Universal Oil Products (UOP), New Jersey
Senior ecological risk assessor for site located in the Meadowlands (2008-present). Provided senior review and support for UOP BERA. Analyzed sediment bioassay and bioaccumulation data for PCBs and mercury in this urban estuarine. Provided ecological risk and ecotoxicology review and oversight for the associated Berrys Creek site.
USEPA, United Heckathorn, California
Lead ecological risk assessor developing remedial goals for DDT and dieldrin contaminated sediments in harbor in northern San Francisco Bay (2007 - 2010). Employed multiple methods (empirical wet weight/bulk sediment, lipid weight and TOC sediment, and mechanistic [based on Trophic Trace]) to model bioaccumulation and derive sediment-based remedial goals for 18 wildlife receptors.
USEPA, Palos Verdes Shelf, California
Senior ecological risk assessor supporting baseline ecological risk assessment (BERA) for DDT-contaminated off-shore marine habitat (2006-2009). Supported bioaccumulation and food web modeling to quantify uptake of DDT into fish and subsequent exposure in birds and marine mammals. Results employed to draft remedial goals guiding the ongoing Feasibility Study.
