Persistent Bioaccumulative Contaminants
California Resources Agency/Imperial Irrigation District, Salton Sea, California
Senior ecological risk assessor for assessment of risks posed by selenium to biota in the Salton Sea. ERA performed
as part of Programmatic EIR (2004-2006). Developed site-specific selenium exposure models for wildlife. Evaluated and quantified selenium exposure and risks to wildlife under multiple restoration alternatives.
US Coast Guard, Tern Island, Hawaii
Lead ecological risk assessor evaluating risks from lead and PCBs to endangered seals and turtles at a former LORAN site on Tern Island (1999-2001). Developed novel method for estimation of ecological risks from bioaccumulative compounds to the endangered turtles. Assisted Coast Guard with negotiations with natural resource trustees (USFWS and NOAA).
Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Lead wildlife risk assessor for the DOE-lead Clinch River Remedial Investigation (1993-1995). Used a weight-of-evidence approach to evaluate risks from mercury, PCBs, and other contaminants to piscivorous and insectivorous birds and mammals within the >100 km-long assessment area. Developed new approach to use probabilistic exposure estimates for estimation of population effects. This method for estimation of population effects was incorporated into the State of Oregon Guidance for Baseline Ecological Risk Assessments.
